I. Sample Preparation

1.Representative Sampling: Samples should be cut from different components of the rain boots (such as the upper, shaft, and lining) and different batches to ensure that the results are representative of the entire product.
2.Precise Dimensions and Quantity: Cut the test specimens strictly according to the dimensions (such as length and width) specified in the standard, and prepare a sufficient quantity (usually at least 5 valid specimens per group) to reduce errors.
3.Preprocessing: Before testing, the samples must be conditioned in a standard temperature and humidity environment (e.g., temperature 20±2°C, relative humidity 65±4%) for at least 24 hours to eliminate environmental interference.

II. Test Environment and Operation

1.Strict Environmental Control: Conduct the test in a dedicated windless combustion test chamber to ensure stable air flow.

2.Flame Calibration: Use specified gases (such as methane, propane) and precisely adjust the flame height and intensity to meet standard requirements.

3.Standardized Operation: Ensure that the flame acts on the specified position accurately and stably (e.g., the center of the bottom in the vertical method), and strictly record the time.

III. Safety and Documentation

1.Full-Process Protection: Operators must wear protective equipment and conduct operations in a fume hood or a space equipped with an exhaust system.

2.Observation and Documentation: In addition to recording core data, phenomena such as dripping, smoke, odor, and shrinkage must be observed and documented.

3.Standardized Disposal: After testing, test specimens must be completely extinguished, and residues must be properly disposed of.

When conducting a combustion test on rain boots (usually classified under "rubber shoes"), the primary precaution is to follow the correct national standard. According to the national standard GB/T 35497-2017《Test Methods for Flame Retardant Properties of Materials Used in Rubber Shoes》.
